SUMMARY:North Central: A Virtual Reading Series presents Chuck Stebelton & Miri Karraker
DESCRIPTION:The Friends of Lorine Niedecker (FoLN) are delighted to host poets Chuck Stebelton (Milwaukee) and Miri Karraker (Minneapolis) for a virtual reading on Sunday\, November 15th\, 2026 at 5pm CST.  \n\n\n\nThis virtual event will take place on Zoom and will be recorded. \n\n\n\n\nClick for Zoom Event Link\n\n\n\n\nChuck Stebelton is author of One Hundred Patterns & Three Heuristics (Green Gallery Press\, 2023). Easterly is just out from The Year (Fall\, 2026). His previous poetry collections include An Apostle Island (Oxeye Press\, 2021)\, The Platformist (Cultural Society\, 2012)\, and Circulation Flowers (Tougher Disguises\, 2005). As a poet and Wisconsin Master Naturalist volunteer\, he has led workshops and field trips for nonprofit organizations and conservancy groups including Wisconsin Academy of Sciences\, Arts & Letters; Field Work Milwaukee; Woodland Pattern; Friends of Lorine Niedecker; and Lynden Sculpture Garden. He currently serves as Director of Special Projects & Initiatives at Woodland Pattern\, and since 2018 has held an ongoing artist residency at Lynden Sculpture Garden. He prints pamphlets\, broadsides\, collaborative print objects and such under the Ben Tinterstices Editions imprint. Ted Berrigan\, “interstices // bent.”  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nA winky knot of anxious confusion and over-it anger\, Miri Karraker’s garden path paws around with an ear to the ground to find out what it knows\, unearthing only labyrinth and glitch in the places it thought it knew the best. A goldfinch can only do so much. A lonely fact can be misread. New modes of listening prevail in lieu\, each corner and crossing lit anew with indignant\, local hope. \n\n\n\nhttps://www.communitymausoleum.org/books/p/garden-path \n\n\n\nMiri lives and works in Minneapolis.  \n\n\n\nhttps://miriamkarraker.com/ \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nNorth Central is a virtual reading series providing a space to gather and hear living poets who connect in various ways to the poetry of Lorine Niedecker. The series takes its title from North Central (London: Fulcrum Press\, 1968)\, the third book of poems published in Niedecker’s lifetime. The readings are curated by Chuck Stebelton and Richard Meier and supported by the Friends of Lorine Niedecker. Readings are held twice per year\, in October / November and March / April. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nLearn information about the Friends of Lorine Niedecker. \n\n\n\nVisit our YouTube playlist to view past events in the North Central reading series. \n\n\n\nFor more information about this event\, contact Chuck Stebelton cstebelton@gmail.com or Richard Meier rmeier@carthage.edu

SUMMARY:Editing the Lorine Niedecker and Louis Zukofsky Correspondence: A Panel Discussion with Jenny Penberthy\, Barry Ahearn\, and Jeffrey Twitchell-Waas
DESCRIPTION:The Friends of Lorine Niedecker are pleased to host a very special panel discussion focused on the surviving correspondence between Lorine Niedecker and Louis Zukofsky. The event will take place on Zoom and will be recorded. \n\n\n\n\nClick for Zoom Event Link\n\n\n\n\nIn 1993\, Jenny Penberthy published Niedecker and the correspondence with Zukofsky\, 1931-1970 with the Cambridge University Press. This volume contained an extensive introduction contextualizing the Niedecker/Zukofsky relationship and made significant portions of most of Niedecker’s surviving letters to Zukofsky available to other scholars and researchers. \n\n\n\nWhile fragments from dozens of Zukofsky’s letters to Niedecker survived and were held by the Harry Ransom Center at the University of Texas\, the Zukofsky’s son Paul denied permission for these letters to be published for many years. In 2013\, Barry Ahearn published The Selected Letters of Louis Zukofsky\, but noted in that volume’s introduction that “The letters to Lorine Niedecker are also omitted from this selection\, in keeping with the wishes of Paul Zukofsky”. Following Paul Zukofsky’s death in 2017\, Jeffrey Twitchell-Waas became the Zukofsky’s literary executor\, and has since loosened many of the previous restrictions on publishing Zukofsky-related material. \n\n\n\nEarlier this year\, Barry Ahearn and Jeffrey Twitchell-Waas published on Z-Site a revised and much expanded (digital) edition of The Selected Letters of Louis Zukofsky. This publication included\, for the first time\, what survives of the letters Zukofsky wrote to Niedecker\, allowing readers and scholars to gain a fuller and more accurate understanding of the two poets’ relationship. \n\n\n\nIn light of this important development\, the Friends of Lorine Niedecker are especially excited to host a panel conversation with each of the three scholar-editors of the published Niedecker/Zukofsky correspondence: Jenny Penberthy\, Barry Ahearn\, and Jeffrey Twitchell-Waas. The event will be hosted by FoLN board member Steel Wagstaff and will feature brief remarks from each panelist followed by a moderated conversation. \n\n\n\nPlease join us on December 12 for an exciting glimpse into the rich\, intensive\, decades-spanning correspondence between the poets Lorine Niedecker and Louis Zukofsky. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTo learn more about each of our distinguished panelists: \n\n\n\n\nRead Jenny Penberthy’s faculty biography at Capilano University.\n\n\n\nRead Barry Ahearn faculty biography at Tulane University.\n\n\n\nJeffrey Twitchell-Waas is the editor of Z-Site\, the outstanding digital companion to the works of Louis Zukofsky. He co-edited\, with Mark Scroggins\, The Uncollected Louis Zukofsky\, published in 2025 by the University of New Mexico Press. He received his doctorate from Duke University in 1987 and taught subsequently in universities in China\, Taiwan\, and Singapore. He currently lives in Bellinzona\, Switzerland\, primarily working on modernist American poetry and occasionally translating contemporary Chinese poetry.
