Plus two more opportunities to experience ‘Welcome Poets’ on screen in February and March!

The Friends of Lorine Niedecker (FOLN) announces three upcoming events this February and March: a virtual reading celebrating the forthcoming Winter 2026 issue of The Solitary Plover, an in-person community screening of Welcome Poets hosted by Woodland Pattern and the broadcast premiere of the documentary on PBS Wisconsin.


Winter 2026 Solitary Plover Reading – March 12

When: Thursday, March 12, 2026 at 6:30 p.m. Central

Where: Virtual via Zoom

Details: FOLN will host a virtual reading featuring poets published in the Winter 2026 issue of The Solitary Plover. Contributors will read from their poetry in the new issue and share a favorite Niedecker poem. The event is hosted in partnership with Woodland Pattern.

Welcome Poets In Person Screening at Woodland Pattern in Milwaukee – February 21

When: Saturday, February 21, 2026 at 2:00 p.m. Central

Where: Woodland Pattern, 720 East Locust Street, Milwaukee

Details: Former Wisconsin Poet Laureate Nicholas Gulig and producer Colin Crowley will present a screening and discussion of the PBS Wisconsin documentary series Welcome Poets. Free admission with donations welcome. Registration suggested but not required.

Welcome Poets Broadcast Premiere Airing on PBS Wisconsin – March 1

When: Sunday, March 1, 2026 at 6:30-7:30 p.m. Central

Where: PBS Wisconsin Channel

Details: The six-episode documentary series will air as an edited one-hour prime-time broadcast during PBS Wisconsin’s March 2026 pledge drive. The documentary offers a Wisconsin statewide audience an opportunity to learn about the impact of Niedecker’s life and work.
