While the Friends of Lorine Niedecker and the Hoard Historical Museum prepare for the premiere and local screening (this Friday, Sept. 12) of the PBS Wisconsin docuseries, Welcome Poets, featuring the life and work of Lorine Niedecker, we also want to share links to two recent radio interviews about the series.
Last Friday, Madison’s WORT community radio interviewed Welcome Poets producer Colin Crowley who works in the local series unit of PBS Wisconsin. He sat down with 8 O’Clock Buzz show host Andy Moore to discuss the series, including some of its creative and technical aspects —like how the film’s layered production uses images, split screens, music, and rhythm to mirror the cadence of verse.
Listen to the full episode on WORT here.
On Monday, both Crowley and the writer and narrator of Welcome Poets, former Wisconsin Poet Laureate Nicholas Gulig, were guests on Wisconsin Public Radio’s Larry Meiller Show to discuss the series, Niedecker’s influence on the world of letters and Wisconsin, and the potential for varying types of storytelling in public media. Listen to the audio of their segment directly below.
Most importantly, please join us this Friday, September 12, at the Hoard Historical Museum in Fort Atkinson for one of two consecutive screenings (and post screening Q&A’s) — at 5 p.m. or at 7 p.m. — of all six episodes of Welcome Poets.
We appreciate if you RSVP at this link to select which screening you plan to attend. When you reach the link, click the orange button near the top right that reads, “Check Availability,” then simply choose your desired screening time and follow the prompts.
If you have any trouble registering, please just call the Hoard Historical Museum at (920) 397-9914 and staff will be happy help you!
